The Hacienda at the Canyon, located on , is being built on 10 acres next to the site of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Sanctuary. The sanctuary and the Stations of the Cross walking trail will stay open to the public and the St. Ann’s Convent will remain undisturbed.
The development, currently under construction, received a $35 million building permit and is pre-leasing. The project will have 154 independent living apartments, 72 assisted living and 40 memory care apartments. Future phases will include Casita homes.
This will be the fourth Tucson-area senior living community for Tucson-based Watermark Retirement Communities.
The company’s first development is The Fountains at La Cholla, 2001 W. Rudasill Road, opened in 1987 and is still owned and managed by Watermark. Its second community, The Hacienda at the River, opened last year on River and Hacienda del Sol roads. The Watermark at Continental Ranch, 8689 N. Silverbell Road, is also under construction and expected to open in the spring of next year.
