It’s no surprise that weeks before Tucson pianist Fanya Lin’s St. Andrew’s Bach Society recital last August, there were very few tickets remaining.
Critics use words like “mesmerizing†and “heartfelt†to describe Lin’s “charismatic and fiery†performances of works ranging from Rachmaninoff to Gershwin and Chopin.
Tucson audiences over the past several years have come to use similar praise for the widely traveled concert pianist and University of Arizona School of Music piano professor, who resurrects her “War and Peace†recital for Dove of Peace Lutheran Church’s concert series on Sunday, March 23.
The program opens with Philip Glass’s dreamily cinematic “Dead Things†from the film “The Hours†that sets the table for Alexander Scriabin’s emotionally-charged Sonata No. 1 in F minor. George Crumb’s wonderfully dissonant short work “Tora! Tora! Tora!†will feel like a warmup for Chopin’s terrific Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat Minor that closes the program.
