What: Ben’s Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week a person who makes Tucson better is “belled.”
Last week’s recipient: Tom Litwicki.
Nominated by: City Councilman Richard Fimbres.
Why: For his work as CEO of Old Pueblo Community Services and his continued support of the Tucson Homeless Work Program. Through Litwicki’s leadership, Old Pueblo Community Services has become one of the most innovate nonprofits focusing on issues of homelessness and prison re-entry, Fimbres wrote in his nomination letter. “Tom has been diligent in his work to treat everyone with dignity in their efforts to reintegrate into society. OPCS takes from Tom a kind demeanor to meet people where they are in order to address their needs,” Fimbres wrote. Litwicki has been a supporter of the homeless work program, which offers homeless residents daily work and access to social services. With Litwicki’s help, the program has been expanded to include homeless women, Fimbres wrote.
