Alumni and supporters of Sam Hughes Elementary are celebrating the school’s 90th anniversary with a Speakeasy Soiree on Friday, Dec. 1.
The gala will be held in the Lost Barrio District at 242 S. Park Ave.
There will be a room dedicated to the history collection from Sam Hughes, including old yearbooks, photos, newsletters and other mementos.
Tickets are $45 for one or $80 for two. The price includes dinner and drinks, plus a photo booth keepsake of the evening. The deadline for ordering tickets is Nov. 22. Tickets can be purchased online at
La Petite Academy receives award for healthy practices
Learning Care Group, which operates La Petite Academy in Tucson, has received the 2017 Partner of the Year Award from the Partnership for a Healthier America.

The Partner of the Year Award is presented to the partner who demonstrates how it is successfully executing key strategies, including a keen focus on populations impacted by obesity, doing well while doing good, using an innovative approach to address childhood obesity or creating a ripple effect within their industry.

Four Tucson High grads inducted into hall of fame
Four graduates of Tucson High Magnet School were recently inducted into the school’s hall of fame by the Badger Foundation.
The honorees are Gloria A. Dominguez from the class of 1961, a former teacher and Tucson Unified School District bilingual education administrator; Jerry Gin, class of 1961, a health-care entrepreneur who has helped develop medications to treat various diseases; Delano Price, class of 1969, retired educator and community leader who captained the school’s 1969 state championship basketball team; and Barbara Camacho Sotomayor, class of 1962, a retired TUSD teacher, principal, administrator, mentor and community advocate. The Tucson High Badger Foundation has been honoring distinguished graduates since 1982.
Baboquivari CFO earns financial certification
Clementina Carlyle, chief financial officer of the Baboquivari Unified School District, has earned the Certified Administrator of Schools Finance and Operations designation.
The international designation is granted to highly qualified school business professionals who fulfill multiple requirements, including demonstrating certification eligibility through work experience and education, passing a comprehensive two-part exam that tests competency in accounting and school business management topics, and adhering to the Association of School Business Officials International Certification Code of Conduct. Ongoing training also is required.
