A 53-year-old woman was struck and killed while riding a bicycle on Tucson's northwest side, authorities say.
About 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Cheryl Degeest was riding a BMX-style bicycle north on North Davis Avenue when she was struck by a Ford Escape on Chester Way, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said in a news release. The area is near West Ruthrauff Road east of Interstate 10.
The unidentified driver of the Ford told investigators she stopped at a stop sign before making a right turn onto Davis Avenue, the release said. The driver was turning when she struck the bicyclist from behind, the release said.
The driver was cited for causing death or serious injury by moving violation and failure to yield at a stop sign, the release said.
