Arizona concluded its eighth practice of spring ball on Thursday.Â
Here are notes and observations from the Wildcats' latest spring session, as they look to put a close on the third week of spring practices.Â
* Arizona spent a period working on crossing routes on the goal line. In the same period, at "Bear Down Beach" (the field that shares the UA beach volleyball court), the Wildcats ran an inside run drill, which focuses on run plays inside the tackles. Arizona linebacker Chase Kennedy and defensive tackle Zac Siulepa were among the defensive players to record tackles for loss.Â
* Arizona's cornerbacks wore special goggles that cut off peripheral vision, forcing the cornerbacks to keep their eyes forward on the receiver. Earlier in the week, Arizona's cornerbacks wore boxing gloves in one-on-one drills to prevent them from grabbing onto receivers' jerseys in coverage.Â

* During a 7-on-7 period in the red zone, Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita completed two touchdown passes in the back left corner of the end zone to West Virginia transfer wide receiver Rodney Gallagher. Redshirt freshman quarterback Luke Haugo threw two touchdowns in the back of the end zone to Colorado State transfer receiver Jordan Ross. Redshirt freshman quarterback Sawyer Anderson threw a touchdown to walk-on receiver Jordan McCord.Â
* The first defense used in a team period featured Dominic Lolesio, Leroy Palu and Mays Pese on the defensive line, with Memphis transfer Everett Roussaw, Taye Brown and Kennedy at linebacker, and Wyoming transfer Tyrese Boss, Nebraska transfer Malcolm Hartzog, safeties Gavin Hunter and Quinn Olson and Charlotte transfer Dwight Bootle in the secondary.Â
* The first-team offense featured quarterback Noah Fifita, running back Antwan Roberts, transfer tight ends Cole Rusk (Illinois) and Arthur Ban (San Diego State), receivers Chris Hunter and Tre Spivey, with Matthew Lado, Rhino Tapa'atoutai, Zachary Henning, Alexander Doost and redshirt freshman Louis Akpa on the offensive line.Â
* One of the final team periods of Thursday's practice was spent in the red zone. Fifita threw a 17-yard touchdown over the middle to wide receiver Tre Spivey, who also had a nifty back-shoulder grab near the left pylon two plays later. Freshman wide receiver Caleb Smith caught a touchdown pass from Haugo. The 5-8, 166-pound Smith, who's nicknamed "Jet," has been one of the top freshman performers this spring. If Smith doesn't crack the receiver rotation this season, he'll be a name to monitor in the near future. Â
* Louisville transfer punter Carter Schwartz averaged 3.68 seconds on his hang time. Australian freshman Chase Ridley's average hang time was 4.24 seconds, albeit one sailed out of bounds.
* Junior kicker Michael Salgado-Medina made all four of his field-goal attempts on Thursday. His makes were from 32 yards (twice), 40 and 23. Salgado-Medina is 8 for 8 at kicking field goals this spring. Â
* Former ÃÛÌÒÓ°ÏñAV offensive line coach Jim Michalczik was a guest at Arizona's practice on Thursday. Michalczik was the Wildcats' offensive line coach under head coach Rich Rodriguez from 2013-17, before stints at Oregon State and most recently Michigan State.Â
