Arizona redshirt junior tight end Tyler Powell is out for the season after suffering a leg injury, according to UA head coach Brent Brennan on Thursday.
Powell suffered the season-ending leg injury on the first possession of Arizona’s blowout win over Hawaii last week.
“We love him and we’re here to support him,” Brennan said on Thursday. “We have great people that are going to get him back to a speedy recovery.”
Powell started at tight end against Hawaii and was expected to have a more prominent role in the UA offense this season. Powell appeared in all 12 games last season and recorded five catches for 40 yards.
With Powell out, Arizona’s starting tight end is redshirt senior Sam Olson, who caught Arizona’s only passing touchdown last week. Brennan said “there’s a chance” junior tight end Keyan Burnett, who’s recovering from an injury he suffered during training camp, could play this week against Weber State. The Wildcats are also expected to rely on Mercyhurst transfer tight end Cameron Barmore.
