Two of Tucson’s finest excelled at the 2025 U.S. Adaptive Open.
Bailey Bish, a graduate of Tanque Verde High School and Pima Community College, and Amanda Cunha, the captain of the University of Arizona adaptive golf team, tied for second place in the women’s event this week in Rockville, Maryland.

Bish, the defending champion, shot in the tournament — a 1-over 73 — in Wednesday’s third and final round. She finished at 19 over par, three shots behind Kim Moore of Battle Creek, Michigan.
Cunha, who’s from Kaneohe, Hawaii, nearly matched Bish with a final-round 75, tied for the third-best score in any round at the USGA-sanctioned event at Woodmont Country Club’s South Course.

Bish, 25, earned a medal as the winner of the women’s Coordination Impairment category. Bish has overcome a variety of challenges — including dystonia and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, also known as POTS — to become one of the nation’s top adaptive golfers.

Cunha, 21, took home a medal as the winner of the women’s Vision Impairment category for the fourth straight year. During her senior year of high school, Cunha was diagnosed with Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON), a genetically inherited disease that causes vision loss. She is considered legally blind.
Bish’s final round featured four birdies, including two of the last three holes she played. Cunha overcame three early bogeys to share second-place honors with Bish at 19 over.
Incoming UA freshman Sophia Howard finished in 13th place. On the men’s side, Tyler Cashman, an incoming UA transfer, finished tied for 27th.
