Pima College and Phoenix College will once again play for the men’s soccer Region I, Division II crown.
The No. 2-seeded Aztecs beat No. 3 seed Glendale CC 3-1 in the semifinals Friday. Pima (16-2) will play at No. 1 Phoenix at 6 p.m. Wednesday as the teams meet for the title for the fifth time in the past six years.
Pima scored the game’s first three goals against Glendale, getting scores from Joost Hermeling in the 13th minute, and then from Leonel Gutierrez in the 24th and 47th minutes.

“We knew that playing Glendale was going to be a hard game,†said Gutierrez in a press release. “We have a lot of respect for them, they’re a great team. We prepared all week for them. We knew it would be a physical game. We just had to stay disciplined and keep our heads in the game and don’t get too caught up with our emotions.â€

The Aztecs finish the season undefeated at home for the second straight year and are now 21-0 during that span on their own pitch.
Women’s soccer
Yajaira Cervantes scored the game’s only goal in the 62nd minute as top-seeded Pima beat No. 4 Glendale CC at home in the Region I, Division II tournament on Thursday.
The Aztecs (12-1-5) host No. 2 Phoenix College at 6 p.m. Tuesday night in the championship.
Samantha Mendez assisted on Cervantes’ goal, which held up as Pima notched its fourth shutout in the last six games.
“We had a free kick, and they were caught off guard and trying to figure it out,†said Cervantes in a press release. “Sammy (Samantha Mendez) hits it, it hits everybody (in the box) and somehow lands at my feet. I just saw the open side on the right and hit it with my left.â€
The Aztecs had 14 shots on goal in the win. Goalkeeper Brooke Valencia had four saves.
Women’s basketball
No. 2-ranked Pima fell in its season opener, losing 71-58 to Arizona Western in the Arizona Western Classic in Yuma on Friday.
Pima shot just 31.4% overall, 18.5% (5 of 27) from 3-point range and 45.0% (9 of 20) from the free-throw line. The Aztecs fell behind 37-23 at halftime.
Kiley Sours-Miller and Reigne Waugh each shot 7 of 15 to finish with 17 points.
Pima next plays at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Yavapai College.
Volleyball
Pima closed regular-season play with a 3-1 loss at Glendale CC on Friday.
Maggie McReynolds had 11 digs and 10 kills as the Aztecs lost 20-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-19.
The Aztecs (10-13, 6-6) will be the No. 4 seed in the Region I, Division II semifinals. They play at No. 1 Mesa at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
