Post 7 Moondogs, made up of players from Tucson High School, advanced to the semifinals of the American Legion Western Regional Tournament before being eliminated Saturday night.
Post 7 lost to California state champion Petaluma 6-1 in Fairfield, California. Petaluma was the only undefeated squad in the eight-team field entering Sunday’s championship round.

Petaluma then got swept by Texas state champion League City, 11-1 and 9-1. League City won the Western Regional for the fourth year in a row, punching its ticket to the .
Post 7 went 2-2 in this year’s , notching victories over host Fairfield (6-5) on Wednesday and New Mexico state champion Eldorado (10-2) on Friday. The Moondogs lost to Hawaii state champ Honolulu 11-0 Thursday.

Post 7 fell behind Petaluma 4-0 in the top of the first inning and never could make up the deficit. The Moondogs finished in a tie for third place with Honolulu.
American Legion baseball is a 19U competition. While the majority of players on the other semifinalists’ rosters graduated from high school this year or last year, Post 7’s roster consisted entirely of current high school students, including six players entering their sophomore years.
