Former Phoenix Mercury interim coach Nikki Blue has filed a lawsuit against the team, alleging racial and gender discrimination, unequal pay and retaliation. Lawyers filed the suit Thursday in U.S. District Court in Arizona. Blue, who is Black, claims she was paid less than her white predecessor and successor. She also alleges the organization set her up to fail by making poor roster decisions. Blue coached the team to a 7-21 record in 2023 and was not retained. The Mercury deny the claims, calling the lawsuit meritless and citing her performance and limited coaching experience as reasons for her dismissal.
