A 42-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash Friday night on the city's southeast side, Tucson police said.
The crash happened about 8 p.m. when Colby Matthew Sweet was headed east on East Golf Links Road just east of South Wilmot Road and collided with a pickup truck making a left turn, police said in a news release.
Sweet died at the crash scene.
Investigators say the unidentified 37-year-old driver of a red 2015 Ram pickup was stopped at a stop sign at South Calle Polar and started to make a left turn when his vehicle was struck by the motorcycle that "was traveling well above the posted 40 mph speed limit," the release said.
"Failure to yield at a stop sign by the driver of the Ram and excessive speed by the motorcyclist are believed to be the primary contributing factors in the crash," the release said.
