A deadly multi-vehicle crash Thursday morning on Interstate 19 south of Tucson started when a man was fatally struck while helping change a tire on the shoulder of the northbound lanes, authorities say.
Luis Enrique Deltoro, 60, was struck about 9:30 a.m. between the Pima Mine Road and San Xavier Road exits, the state Department of Public Safety said.

An unidentified woman lost control while attempting to change lanes, striking the vehicle Deltoro was with, then a second vehicle parked on the shoulder, the department said.
That driver and another person in the three-vehicle wreck were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, the DPS said.
The crash closed a portion of the interstate for several hours.
