Between 2011 and 2015, 105 pedestrians and cyclists were killed in traffic crashes in and around Tucson. Hundreds more were critically injured.
To honor those killed and injured, and advocate for changes to turn the situation around, local nonprofit Living Streets Alliance is organizing a ceremony Sunday as a part of the International World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
“These kinds of crashes are preventable and we know this because cities that have made a concerted effort to reduce traffic conflicts and crashes are seeing exactly that,†said LSA Director Emily Yetman in a press release.
The event, which starts at 5 p.m., will be held at the Bike Church, at the southwest corner of North Granada Avenue and West Davis Street.
It’s open to everyone, but crash survivors and families of those killed are especially encouraged to attend.
