15 popular street signs we urge you to leave alone

  • Sep 22, 2016
  • Sep 22, 2016 Updated Aug 4, 2018

Stealing street signs is against the law, but taking photos of them is not, so we got a few of the most commonly liberated signs. They were spread out all over Tucson and Pima County, so it took 138 miles of driving to get these. There are more on the "most frequently replaced" list. If a sign on your street disappears from time to time, take a photo while it's there and send it to eds@tucson.com and we'll add it here. Include the photographer's name, please.

Readers' street sign submissions follow the Star photos.

Gay Street. We find ourselves wondering if the coworker with this last name has this sign on his wall at home. We doubt it — he doesn't strike us as the felonious type.

Hash Knife Circle. It's not anywhere near Stoner Avenue, at least geographically.

We live in a desert, so it's nice to know Oasis Road is here.

The signs for Stoner Avenue and Stoner Place are popular among sign thieves. These are reinforced to discourage pilferers. We urge restraint.

This photo was taken by the still-living James Dean, whose wife's name is Laurie Ann. We don't know if Laurie Ann thinks of her husband as a bad boy, but we're guessing the couple is partial to this intersection in Rita Ranch.
