A former Tucson daycare worker who fled the country in 1992 to avoid child molestation charges was arrested Wednesday in Ukraine, where he was living under a false identity, police said.
Daniel George Brewster, now 66, was working at a childcare center on East Prince Road in December 1991 when Tucson police began investigating reports of alleged molestation that occurred there.
It was alleged that four children — 4 to 9 years old — were victimized while under Brewster’s care at the center, police said in a news release.
Brewster was eventually arrested and released on bond pending his trial. When he failed to appear, the case went forward without him, and a jury found Brewster guilty in absentia of 15 counts of child molestation, police said. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
Brewster remained a fugitive for more than three decades until this week, when he was arrested in Kyiv Oblast by the Ukrainian National Police.

Brewster’s detention was an international effort, police said. Brewster had been using a false identity and fake documents to remain on the run, police said.
“We hope this arrest brings a measure of closure and justice to the survivors of these horrific crimes,†TPD wrote in the news release.
