A 14-year-old was shot to death, and a 13-year-old is facing felony charges after an armed robbery went wrong Thursday night, Tucson police said.
The Tucson Police Department gave this account in a news release Saturday:
Officers responded to a call about a stolen vehicle in the area of South Oak Tree Drive and West Sauvignon Drive in Midvale Park around 10:15 p.m. Thursday. Not long after that dispatch, 911 calls began coming in reporting gunshots in the same area.
When officers arrived, they found 14-year-old Taigoro Chaparro dead inside the stolen vehicle.
Homicide detectives were called in and told that one 911 caller, a 19-year-old man, admitted to being involved in the shooting of the 14-year-old.
The 19-year-old told police he was walking home from work when he was confronted by two teens inside the stolen vehicle. He said the vehicle’s passenger got out and robbed him at gunpoint. The robbery victim told police he complied with the demands, but that during the confrontation, he was able to retrieve his own firearm and fired toward the younger teens
