Hurricane Melissa reaches Category 5 as it approaches Jamaica
Hurricane Melissa has intensified to Category 5 strength as it nears Jamaica, with up to 76 centimetres of rain and a life-threatening storm surge. While Melissa has winds up to 260 km/h, the storm itself is approaching at an agonizingly slow pace of just 5 km/h. It is forecast to make landfall on Tuesday.
