Thank you Mayor Romero for realizing there are still many unanswered questions regarding the Project Blue proposal. One big question for Tucson Mayor and City Council this week is: Why should Project Blue get the nod to receive massive amounts of clean, renewable electric power when residential and business ratepayers have been denied this request for many years?
And thank you for considering a rule making process so we actually have City requirements for any data centers within the City’s jurisdictional boundaries.
However it’s not only Tucson; Pima County and the region as a whole is lacking any vision and set of regulations for how this water/energy guzzling industry should be treated.
As a Pima County Planning and Zoning Commissioner, the County was remiss in presenting this muddled case to the Commission in April. Given the lack of comprehensive analysis, the Commission simply rubber-stamped this overhyped project and sent it along to the Board of Supervisors for approval.
