Wembanyama Scores 35 To Make Spurs History In Playoff Debut
San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama scored 35 points as his team defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 111-98 in Game 1 of their first-round playoff clash. Wembanyama’s scoring output was the most by a player in their playoff debut in franchise history, passing the previous mark set by Tim Duncan. The 22-year-old went 13-for-21 from the field and five-of-six from three at San Antonio, registering their first playoff win in seven years. Wembanyama, who added five rebounds and two blocks, became the first player in NBA history to score 35 points or more while making five threes in their first postseason game. The win gives the Spurs a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven game series ahead of Game 2 on April 21 in San Antonio.
