An in-depth look at the Tucson arts scene takes the stage at the Temple of Music and Art at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29.
“Community Interactive: The Arts,†presented by Arizona Public Media and the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, brings together national and local leaders in the arts to discuss such topics as how the arts define Tucson, the economic impact of the arts, and to explore ideas on how involvement in the arts can be increased.
Heading up the evening’s event is Jeffrey Brown, the “PBS NewsHour†chief correspondent for arts, culture and society.
Among the panelists are Deborah Jordy, an American for the Arts board member and executive director of Denver’s Scientific and Cultural Facilities District, a Colorado tax district which provides funds for arts and sciences in the city; Fletcher McCusker, a force behind the revitalization of Tucson’s downtown and CEO of UAVenture Partners; Arizona Theatre Company’s Artistic Director David Ivers; Marc David Pinate, Borderlands Theater’s artistic director; the head of the Tucson Museum of Art, Jeremy Mikolajczak; Ginger Shulick Porcella, the executive director and curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tucson; Randi Dorman, chair of the Downtown Tucson Partnership; and Cindy Ornstein, the city of Mesa’s director of arts and culture.

This is the fourth “Community Interactive†that AZPM and the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona have presented. Previous events have covered education, border issues and poverty. The idea is to examine an issue, look at its challenges, and come up with solutions.
