The second Beyond Bread is along Concourse B, which also welcomed Bruegger鈥檚 Bagels and Built Custom Burgers 鈥� two of three national chains coming to the airport; Dunkin鈥� Donuts is in the wings 鈥� and El Charro Cafe, making its return to the airport after a 20-year absence.

The four join Noble Hops, Empire Pizza and Sir Veza鈥檚 Taco Garage, which opened since November.

With the exception of California-based Built Custom Burgers, which opens at 9:30 a.m. daily, the restaurants open at 4 a.m.

Still to come: Thunder Canyon Brewery and a bar inspired by The Maverick Live Country Club.

Illegal Pete鈥檚

opening near ASU

The UA-ASU rivalry continues, this time over a Mission-style burrito and a cold one.

Illegal Pete鈥檚, the Colorado Mexican restaurant with a SoCal-inspired menu and laid-back vibe, is opening a restaurant on Tempe鈥檚 Mill Avenue, in the shadow of Arizona State University.

Back in December 2015, the restaurant opened its first Arizona restaurant on University Boulevard, in the shadow of the University of Arizona. The opening prompted protests over its name 鈥� some people say it disparages Mexicans and muddies the waters in the immigration debate 鈥� even though Illegal Pete's has been around since 1995, long before the immigration issue came to a boil. The name actually is a nod to founder Pete Turner's father, a self-proclaimed hell-raiser.

In the arena of one-upmanship, UA wins the Illegal Pete鈥檚 round not only because the restaurant came to Tucson first but we also hold the distinction of being Illegal Pete鈥檚 first and only restaurant outside of its Colorado birthplace.

Is there a Territorial Cup for that?

The Tempe Illegal Pete鈥檚 will open before the fall 2018 semester, company officials said.
