A Pima County deputy is on paid administrative leave while the U.S. Secret Service investigates social media posts related to the killing of Charlie Kirk, authorities say.
Monday, Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed the investigation, but did not specifically address what Deputy Ramon Hernandez said on social media to prompt a federal probe.
"We are very much concerned," Nanos said in the video. "The Secret Service is conducting a criminal investigation as we speak, and we are cooperating fully. To that point, we have protocols that are governed by law and by policy."
Nanos said an internal review will begin after the federal probe is completed.
"To be clear, this Sheriff and this department does not, and will never condone violence of any kind," Nanos said.

"We hold our team to a higher standard, a level of professionalism that's above all. We expect the best out of our team at all times, 24-7; not just during their eight-hour day."
While Nanos did not share the alleged statement, a social media post attributed to the deputy being widely shared on social media says Kirk promoted hate and racism, "and we are long overdue for a revolution." Complaints also say a statement was a threat to President Trump. The Star was unable to independently confirm the alleged posts.
Several people sharing the alleged post say they complained to the department, hoping to get the deputy fired.
"We are committed to keeping this community safe and will take a very close look at all of the allegations that are in front of us," Nanos said.
Kirk was fatally shot and killed Wednesday during an event at Utah Valley University.
