A man facing arrest after investigators say he shot at a bail bondsman earlier this month died from a self-inflicted gunshot as authorities prepared to arrest him.
The case started April 7, when Ralph Eric Ramirez, 54, reportedly shot at a bail bondsman who was trying to take him into custody in the 5200 block of South Palo Verde Road. No one was hit, but Ramirez fired toward an occupied fast food restaurant as he fled, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.
On Wednesday, detectives with the department's Fugitive Investigations Unit were preparing to arrest Ramirez on a warrant alleging charges that included aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and prohibited possession of a firearm, the release said.
While outside a house, detectives heard a gunshot inside and later found the body of Ramirez inside.
