Incoming Arizona forward Koa Peat had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead USA to an 88-73 win over Australia in its first game at the FIBA U19 World Cup on Saturday in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Peat, who is aiming to become the first American basketball player to win four gold medals with junior national teams, had seven points in the first three minutes, though he was later slowed when he picked up four fouls by the third quarter.

Led by UA coach Tommy Lloyd, Team USA but did not blow out the Australians despite taking leads of up to 25 points. The Americans led by up to 24 in the second quarter and, after the Emus pulled to within 49-37 at halftime, took a 62-37 lead with 6:48 left in the third quarter when BYU-bound forward AJ Dybantsa drove inside for a layup.

Dybantsa wound up leading USA in scoring with 18 points, while Michigan forward Morez Johnson had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Incoming UConn freshman Jacob Furphy led Australia with 24 points, though he had four turnovers.
Both teams shot only 36% from the field but USA scored 23 points off 21 Australia turnovers. The Americans also took five more free throws than the Emus, making 32 of 41 (78.1%) from the line.
