The Americans (6-0), in a semifinal game Saturday, will face unbeaten Germany in the gold-medal game Sunday at 11 a.m. in Lausanne, Switzerland. It will be streamed on .

The Americans are attempting to win gold after failing to medal during the last U19 World Cup in 2023, while Germany will be appearing in its first-ever FIBA U19 World Cup final.

The Americans have won their six U19 games by an average of 40 points, facing close competition only during their 108-102 win over Canada in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Averaging 115.5 points over its six U19 games, USA is also on track to become the highest-scoring team ever in FIBA U19 World Cup history. Yugoslavia¡¯s 1987 team, which featured eventual NBA players Vlade Divac, Dino Radja and Toni Kukoc, holds the record with an average of 108.9 points.

Led by Texas Tech guard Christian Anderson and Washington-bound big man Hannes Steinberg this time, Germany has won its six games by an average of 13.5 points but beat Canada 104-88 in a Group Phase game.

In Saturday¡¯s other semifinal game, Anderson scored 27 points to help Germany , while Steinbach added 14 points and 16 rebounds. Both Anderson and Steinbach are averaging 17.2 points a game, tied for seventh among U19 scorers.

In the final Sunday, Lloyd won¡¯t have to face incoming Arizona freshman Ivan Kharchenkov, who was struck from Germany¡¯s U19 roster as his Bayern Munich club was finishing a playoff run. But USA assistant coach Grant McCasland of Texas Tech will have to coach against Anderson.

A guard from Atlanta who holds dual U.S.-German citizenship because his father is from Germany, Anderson made the Big 12¡¯s All-Freshman team last season after averaging 10.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game for the Red Raiders.

While Anderson helped Germany break new ground by reaching the gold-medal game, New Zealand (4-2) was making its first semifinal appearance in the U19 event.

But the Junior Tall Blacks, as New Zealand calls its youth basketball teams, were clearly overmatched Saturday. New Zealand scored the first basket of the game before USA went on a 9-0 run, and the game was never in contention after that.

USA wound up shooting 54.9% while holding New Zealand to just 36.2%. Arizona freshman Koa Peat had seven points and six rebounds while class of 2026 guard Caleb Holt led the Americans with 20 points and seven rebounds.
