The Buffalo Bills released former Arizona Wildcats offensive lineman Gerhard de Beer on Tuesday, just one week into his rookie season.
Got released from the Bills today. Thank you Buffalo for the incredible support. You truly are an amazing fan base!
— Gerhard de Beer (@debeer67)
The 6-foot-7, 262-pound guard from South Africa went undrafted in 2018 and joined the Bills' practice squad.
De Beer signed with Arizona in 2013 and was originally going to throw discus on the track and field team. He joined the football team without any playing experience.Â

He started as a tight end, but added weight to his frame to play on the offensive line. De Beer is the second UA offensive lineman from last year's squad to be released from an NFL team this season, following Jacob Alsadek, who was released by both the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys.Â
