In its fifth decade of competitive athletics, Pima College has produced success unlike any other year at the school, a historical season, and it could get better this month.

The No. 7-ranked Aztecs softball team, 50-7, coached by Rebekah Quiroz, opens play in the NJCAA Division II World Series this week.
The No. 10-ranked Pima baseball team, coached by Ken Jacome, with a school-record 45 victories, will learn Tuesday if it is in the field for the NJCAA D-II World Series. How can it not be?
The PCC men’s track team, coached by Chad Harrison, entered this weekend’s NJCAA championships ranked No. 7 nationally. More? Harrison’s women’s team is ranked No. 8 nationally.
Quite a spring, indeed.
In the fall, Dave Cosgrove’s men’s soccer team, ranked No.1 nationally most of the year, finished 20-1-1 and reached the NJCAA semifinals, No. 3 overall.

In the winter, Brian Peabody’s men’s basketball team was ranked No. 1 much of the year and finished 35-1, third in the NJCAA D-II finals.
And Todd Holthaus’ women’s basketball team won a school-record 29 games, reaching the NJCAA D-II championship game.
Coach Kendra Veliz’s No. 6-ranked women’s soccer team finished 13-6 and went 1-1 in the NJCAA championships, while PCC’s women’s cross country team finished No. 20 nationally.
The only Pima team not to reach the NJCAA finals was coach Dan Bithell’s women’s volleyball team, which reached the Region I finals and went 12-6 in the ACCAC, the most league victories in school history.
How’s that for a year to remember?
